Critical Incidents Report for October 2021

In October, TMPA opened 14 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer’s actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including: Arlington Police Department, Brenham Police Department, Cherokee County Constable Precinct 4, Denton County Sheriff’s Office, Denver City Police Department, Grand Prairie Police Department, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Huntsville Police Department, Hutchins Police Department, Lubbock Police Department, Lynn County Sheriff’s Office, Mart Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Seguin Police Department, and included the following:



1. Member was involved in a pursuit in which the suspect crashed and died.

2. Member was involved in a shooting and was injured.

3. Member responded to a domestic disturbance that involved an armed suspect who fired several rounds and then pointed gun at member. Member fired one round missing the suspect. The suspect dropped the gun and was taken into custody.

4. Member was involved in an arrest, where, after struggling with the suspect, the suspect died.

5. Member was involved in a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody. The suspect got out the handcuffs and began fighting with the member. The suspect then got into the vehicle and tried to run over member. Member fired multiple rounds at suspect but suspect fled and a chase ensued.

6. Member was involved in a pursuit that ended in a shooting.

7. Member was involved in a shooting with a vehicle that was fast approaching member. No injuries to member or suspect.

8. Member was involved in a pursuit that ended with a possible fatality.

9. Member was involved in an in-custody death.

10. Five other critical incidents involving an on-duty shooting.
