Critical Incidents Report for February 2023

In February, TMPA opened 13 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer’s actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including: Aldine I.S.D. Police Department, Anthony Police Department, Cisco Police Department, College Station Police Department, Denton County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s office, Fulshear Police Department, Harker Heights Police Department, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Horseshoe Bay Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS and include the following:


1. Member was involved in an on duty-shooting that ended with a deceased suspect.

2. Members responded to a disturbance call involving a male suspect claiming he wanted to kill his wife. Upon members’ arrival, suspect began shooting at the members, striking patrol vehicles. The suspect exited the residence firing at members who returned fire and deployed SWAT.

3. Member was involved in a vehicle pursuit with a suspect who drove on the opposite side of the road. The suspect crashed into a concrete barrier and died at the scene.

4. Member was involved in an in-custody death. Suspect escaped custody the day after being arrested. Member and K-9 partner found and apprehended suspect and took suspect to hospital where suspect died.

5. Member was involved in the shooting of an advancing dog.

6. Member was involved in a shooting with an armed suspect. Suspect pointed a gun at member from the back seat of a vehicle. Member returned fire and the suspect vehicle sped away. Unknown injuries to suspect.

7. Member was involved in a shooting at the end of a pursuit with a suspect on a motorcycle. Member had to use deadly force against the suspect who tried to stab member with a knife.

8. Member was involved in a critical incident involving a suspect who was intentionally ramming vehicles to commit suicide. Upon bailing from a crashed vehicle, the suspect was struck by member’s patrol vehicle and received life-threatening injuries.
