
Critical Incidents Report for February 2025
In February, TMPA opened 20 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer’s actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including:
Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, Callahan County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, Garland Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Houston Police Retired Officers Association, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Killeen Police Department, Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office, Mesquite Police Department, New Braunfels Police Department, Newton Police Department, Orange Police Department, Pasadena Police Department, Pflugerville Police Department, Rockwall Police Department, Round Rock Police Department, Victoria County Sheriff’s Office and include the following:
1. Attorney Lance Wyatt assisted member who was involved in a pursuit fatality.
2. Member was involved in an off duty shooting and was assisted by attorney Marsha Todd.
3. Member was involved in a vehicle pursuit, turned foot pursuit. The suspect displayed a short-barrel rifle and began to shoot at officers. Member and another officer engaged the suspect, ending the threat. Robert Rogers with Bob Gorsky’s firm arrived on scene and assisted member.
4. Member was involved in a DWI traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled and crashed, and the subject was ejected from the vehicle and died. Member was assisted by attorney Eric Perkins.
5. Member and other officers were serving a warrant when the suspect became uncooperative. Member deployed taser with no effect. The suspect displayed a handgun and still failed to comply resulting in a K9 being deployed. Attorney Greg Cagle arrived on scene to assist member.
6. Attorney Robert McCabe assisted member who was involved in a pursuit fatality.
7. Attorney Chad Hyde assisted member who was involved with a suspect under the influence of meth who died in custody.
8. Member was involved in a shooting with a stolen vehicle suspect. Attorney Lytza Rojas assisted member.
9. Member was dispatched to a disturbance call involving a subject making threats with a rifle. Member fired a shot from duty weapon missing the suspect. The suspect dropped the rifle and was taken into custody. Attorney Robert McCabe assisted.
10. Attorney Robert McCabe assisted member who was involved in an in-custody death.
11. Member was called to a location to arrest a suspect on a protective order warrant. Suspect fled to a nearby residence and committed suicide. Attorney Lance Wyatt assisted member.
12. Retired member responded to a family member’s call regarding an armed prowler outside the residence. A neighbor who is an active police officer also arrived. When the suspect charged the officers, the active officer shot the suspect. Attorney Amanda Bolin arrived on scene to assist member.
13. Eight other critical incidents involving an on-duty shooting. (Attorneys who assisted include: Bob Gorsky, Andy Stinson, Paul Aman, Amanda Bolin, John Cullar, William Lee Hon)
