Critical Incidents Report for June 2021

In June, TMPA opened 13 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer’s actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including: Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, Balcones Heights Police Department, College Station Police Department, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, Fulshear Police Department, Mansfield Police Department, Rhome Police Department, Round Rock Police Department, Texas DPS, Young County Sheriff’s Office, and included the following:

1. Member was involved in a traffic stop that turned into a pursuit. During the chase, the suspect committed suicide.

2. Member was involved in a shooting involving a suspect who was burglarizing a vehicle.

3. Members, who were assigned to a federal task force, were involved in an on-duty shooting.

4. While working an off-duty job, member was involved in a shooting with a suspect who was attacking people with a knife.

5. Member was involved in a motor vehicle fatality involving a pedestrian.

6. While conducting a traffic stop, suspect attacked and dragged member next to the vehicle and then a shooting occurred.

7. Member was involved in a shooting with an armed suspect who gave chase. Member was shot but survived; unknown injuries to suspect.

8. Member was involved in a standoff and shots were fired with a person exhibiting psychotic behavior.

9. Member responded to a murder scene where the suspect fled on foot. Suspect refused commands to drop weapon and began approaching officers. Member fired a round at suspect.

10. Three critical incidents involving an on-duty shooting.
