
Critical Incidents Report for October 2025
In October, TMPA opened 18 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer’s actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including:
Baytown Police Department, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, Corsicana Police Department, Fairfield police Department, Galveston Police Department, Garland Police Department, Gregg County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, League City Police Department, Lewisville Police Department, Midland Police Department, Odessa Police Department, San Angelo Police Department, Texas DPS, Tyler Police Department and include the following:
1. Members responded to an active shooter call. After negotiations, suspect committed suicide. Attorney Andrew Van der Hoeven with John Wolf’s office assisted members with statements.
2. Attorney John Wolf assisted member who was involved in an in-custody death.
3. Member was involved in an on duty shooting during a pursuit. Attorney Marsha Todd assisted member with statement.
4. Members were involved in a pursuit when the suspect crashed and died after the vehicle caught fire. Attorney Marsha Todd responded to scene to assist members.
5. Member responded to a domestic violence call. The suspect approached member’s patrol car and committed suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Attorney Amanda Bolin assisted member with statement.
6. Attorney John Wolf assisted members who were involved in the arrest of a trespasser at a motel. After being handcuffed and placed in a patrol car, suspect began having breathing problems. EMS was called but life-saving measures were ineffective.
7. Member was involved in a pursuit when the suspect vehicle crashed into a lake. It was unknown if the occupant(s) survived. Attorney Marsha Todd assisted member with statement.
8. Attorney Lance Wyatt responded to and assisted member who was involved in an on-duty shooting.
9. Attorney Marsha Todd assisted member who was involved in a fleet accident that resulted in injuries.
10. Member was involved in a pursuit fatality. Attorney Marsha Todd responded to scene to assist member with statement.
11. Attorney Andy Stinson assisted member who was involved in a struggle with a suspect who grabbed and discharged member’s gun. No injuries occurred.
12. Attorney Greg Cagle assisted several members who, when dealing with a barricaded subject, the subject committed suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
13. Six other critical incidents involving an on-duty shooting (Attorneys who assisted include Amanda Bolin, Bob Gorsky, Andy Stinson, Marsha Todd.)
