Critical Incidents Report for May 2023

In May, TMPA opened 24 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer’s actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including: Allen Police Department, Arlington Police Department, Bailey County Sheriff's Office, Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Bonham Police Department, Brownwood Police Department, Dallas County Constable Precinct 1, Denton Police Department, Garland Police Department, Harris County Sheriff's Office, Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, Irving Police Department, Lee County Sheriff's Office, McKinney Police Department, Midland Police Department, Milam County Sheriff's Office, Mission Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Odessa Police Department, Pearland Police Department, Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Texas DPS, Wichita Falls Police Department and include the following:


1. Member was involved in a pursuit where the suspect crashed.

2. Member was involved in a shooting with an armed suspect at a domestic disturbance. Suspect was taken into custody.

3. Member was dispatched to a disturbance where the suspect came out with a rifle and pointed it at officers. Member stopped the threat.

4. Member was running code through a red light and was involved in a 4-car accident where all involved were transported to the hospital.

5. Member was involved in a pursuit that ended with fatalities.

6. Member was involved in a pursuit where the suspect died.

7. Member was involved in a critical incident dealing with a suicidal subject.

8. Member was involved in an in-custody death.

9. Member was involved in an on-duty, auto-pedestrian accident where a pedestrian was hit by a car and then was struck by member’s car.

10. Member was involved in a pursuit that ended in fatality.

11.Member was involved in an on-duty shooting. Upon entering a home, officers were ambushed. One officer and the suspect are deceased.

12. Member was involved in a vehicle pursuit and at the end of the pursuit, the suspect committed suicide.

13. Member was involved in a pursuit where the suspect crashed, was ejected from the vehicle, and died.

14. Eleven other critical incidents involving an on-duty shooting.
