Crisis Intervention Training

Required of all Peace Officers first licensed on or after 04/01/2018 within 2 years of licensing date – unless course was included in BPOC, and every four-year cycle thereafter until Intermediate Proficiency Certification; and for those Peace Officers/JPs that want to pursue an MHO certification.

This course discusses history and implementation of crisis intervention; familiarity with substance use disorder; intellectual developmental disabilities & cognitive disorders; common mental health conditions that law enforcement is most likely to encounter and how to engage them with de-escalation and rapport building skills; encounters with suicidal individuals; and legalities of law enforcement and mental health components (statutes, NEDs, local hospitals, local issues). This class focuses specifically on how and where to take a person in crisis. Scenario role play & assessments will be required to successfully pass this course. This is a 40-hour course. #1850 or #3843 Mandated in current 4-year training cycle.

TCOLE credit will be given by Coryell County Sheriff’s Office.
