Arrest Control and Defensive Tactics
Arrest Control and Defensive Tactics (TCOLE #2040) is an 8 hour TCOLE training course designed to optimize grappling skills for controlling resisting and combative subjects while reducing injury risk to both officer and suspect.
Please note: A $30 gym fee and a signed waiver are required upon arrival at Black Diamond MMA.
This course focuses on the core concepts and principles of positional dominance, working angles, base and structure, and understanding the difference between contact and connection. Officers learn how to break down complex combative encounters into isolated skill sets and then pressure-test those skills against resistant opponents to ensure retention and real-world application.
Course Topics Include:
- Standing control and pathways to the back
- Under hooks, wrist ties, collar ties, and positional dominance
- Takedowns and earned ground engagements
- Prone cuffing and team cuffing techniques
- High-hand and low-hand extractions
- Ground control offense and defense
- Mount escapes, sweeps, and transitional control
- Implementing tools after achieving control
- Striking integration for control and disengagement
- Self-aid and buddy aid (TQ application, junctional bleeds, chest wounds)
- Duty to Intervene, Duty to Render Aid, and policy considerations regarding neck restraints
Training Methodology:
Instruction includes demonstration, hands-on drills, progressive resistance training, and scenario-based practical application. Officers work through isolated techniques before pressure testing them in controlled competitive environments to validate performance under stress.
