TCOLE Firearms Instructor Course

Tuition: $250

Student Prerequisites to enroll in course:  

 

  • Not prohibited by state or federal law or rule from attending training related to firearms or from possessing a firearm.
  • Never had a license or certificate issued by the Commission suspended or revoked.
  • Currently hold an Instructor Certificate of Proficiency issued by the Commission (*MUST PROVIDE YOUR TCOLE INSTRUCTOR PROICIENCY CERTIFICATE BY EMAIL to [email protected] to take this course).
  • Currently employed or designated by the agency chief administrator or academy coordinator as a firearms instructor.
  • Have at least three years’ experience as either a law enforcement officer or a firearms instructor.

 

Student Prerequisites to attend course:

 

  • Participants must pass the TCOLE Firearms Instructor Qualification Course for pistol and shotgun on the first day of class. There will be no refunds for any candidate dismissed for failure to meet the minimum firearms qualification. Ammo Requirements: Factory ammunition (*No reloads, remanufactured, surplus, or factory seconds):

 

  • 1000 rounds for semi-automatic pistol
  • 200 rounds of revolver ammunition (.38 preferred)
  • 50 rounds birdshot, 25 rounds 00-buck and 15 rounds of rifled slug for 12-guage

 

Required Equipment:

 

  • A photo identification on the first day of class
  • Laptop computer
  • Body armor (hard or soft)
  • Semi-automatic pistol with 3 magazines
  • .38 or .357 caliber revolver and 2 speed loaders*
  • 12-gauge police shotgun with sling
  • Flashlight and/or weapon mounted light (both preferred)
  • Hearing protection
  • Wrap around eye protection
  • Billed cap
  • Duty or battle belt with magazine holder, and appropriate holsters for the revolver and semi-automatic pistol (NO SERPA OR SOFT LEATHER HOLSTERS)
  • Durable clothes for outdoor range activities including inclement weather
  • Gun cleaning supplies appropriate for their weapons
  • Water and snacks
