TMPA Stands with Harris County
Sheriff Deputies
Austin,
TX – TMPA fully
supports and endorses the request/effort/movement to immediately implement
competitive salaries for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. By all accounts,
the department is in even worse shape than most law enforcement agencies
regarding recruiting and retaining qualified personnel. It is incumbent upon and imperative that the
County Judge, Commissioners Court, sheriff and all county officials treat this
as an emergency and find a way to bring salaries up to competitive levels.
Furthermore,
TMPA will not even consider endorsing or supporting any candidate for Harris
County Offices until such candidates make written, public commitments
supporting their own employees, and committing themselves working with the duly
elected employee representatives to implement a viable, competitive pay plan at
the Sheriff’s Office.”

In addition, anyone who works in a law enforcement agency in Texas or is under the direction of a chief administrator or elected official who holds a TCOLE peace officer’s license can join.
